Awakened to new life

The "Kleine Speicher", a small half-timbered house measuring four by five and a half meters, was probably originally a granary.

Behind the fruit barn and the sawmill on the other side of the Westergraben, it fell into disrepair. The dilapidated condition of the approximately 180-year-old building was a thorn in the side of many. Due to the moisture that had penetrated, the timber framing studs had rotted away and the "small granary" was leaning 28 cm out of plumb in the direction of the mill race.

A possible renovation of the building became the subject of a thesis in 2013 - with the aim of preserving it. The Lower Monument Authority and the town of Warstein, as the owner, were informed and the parties involved quickly agreed that the "Kleiner Speicher" was worth renovating.

Visit the small granary

From the first meeting in October 2015 to the inauguration in May 2018, the "Belecke Night Watchmen's Guild" and "Belecke Storm Day Gunners" groups affiliated with the culture and heritage association contributed 2,500 volunteer hours.

The night watchmen and storm day gunners designed a permanent historical exhibition for the lower floor of the "Kleines Speicher". The meeting room for the two groups is located on the second floor.
